‘Say their name!’: Breaking Bad cast reunites for PopCorners Super Bowl ad

After 10 years of radio silence, the cast of Breaking Bad has returned to our screens to feature in PopCorners’ first Super Bowl commercial.

Actors Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Raymond Cruz have reprised their roles as Walter White, Jesse Pinkman and Tuco Salamanca, reimagining scenes from a TV show often hailed as the ‘most critically acclaimed television show of all time’.

Directed by the series creator, head writer, executive producer and director Vince Gilligan – the ad sees the cast swap out crystal meth for PepsiCo’s Popped-Corn Snack.

From Breaking Bad to ‘Breaking into Something Good’, Walter now cooks up PopCorners in the RV, a snack Jesse calls “the bomb”. The snack is so tasty in fact that not only does Pinkman eat his own supply, but the pair offer the crisps to the infamously unhinged drug dealer Tuco to sell and redistribute.

“Say. Their. Name,” Heisenberg says, bringing the iconic line back to life.

Tuco even demands that Captain Cook and Walter White create seven signature flavours.

“PopCorners’ desire to create a genuine extension of the franchise and a campaign that would really excite ‘Breaking Bad’ fans is what brought us back for this Super Bowl commercial,” Cranston said. “Walt would’ve been immediately drawn to the basic ingredients in PopCorners, so ‘Breaking Good’ made perfect sense as an alternate storyline that would’ve been much better for him and Jesse.”

Paul also added: “There’s nothing better than getting to revive characters who mean so much to us, surrounded by so many of our original cast and crew members, for the most exciting sports event of the year. We’re grateful that PopCorners gave us the perfect opportunity to reunite our ‘Breaking Bad’ family, especially with a brand that I think is about to become everyone’s go-to snack.”

The ‘Breaking Good’ spot will premiere on TV during Super Bowl LVII in the first commercial break of the third quarter.

“Bringing PopCorners to the Super Bowl stage for the first time is a tremendous moment for a brand on the rise,” Frito-Lay North America chief marketing officer, Brett O’Brien, said. “We’re showcasing why fans love this air-popped, never fried snack in an exciting and unexpected way through the lens of two characters who could’ve used their talents to Break Into Something Good.”
