Meta has announced it has begun introducing generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools that can create content like images and text for advertisers.
Among other features, the tools will be able to create “simple backgrounds with colours and patterns,” expand images and generate multiple versions of ad texts based on their original copy, said the platform.
The social media giant had begun testing these tools in May, giving access to a small select group of advertisers in a “testing playground”.
To be made available in Meta’s Ads Manager, the tool’s rollout will be completed next year, however, the company admits that there is still work ahead.

This includes potential new features and more development to better customize the generative AI output to match each advertiser’s style.
The new features would mark the social media giant’s first time grouping generative AI technology into its products – mining vast stores of past data to generate new context like text, art and software code.
It follows the company’s last week announcing at Meta Connect that businesses will soon be able to use AI for business massaging on Messenger and WhatsApp to engage with customers.
The latest toolkit is not the first AI product for the tech giant. Meta’s portfolio of AI products includes its language model “Llama 2” and an AI chatbot called Meta AI that can generate text responses and photo-realistic images.
The announcement comes in the wake of source-confirmed speculation that Meta is to begin charging users to use Facebook and Instagram ad-free.
