ChatGPT owner OpenAI breaks into top 50 global sites as it hits 672m visits

OpenAI, the owner of ‘Generative AI’ technology ChatGPT, has become the 44th most visited global website, according to the magazine ‘Digital-adoption.com’.

Traffic to OpenAI has increased by 3,572%, from 18.3 million to 672 million visits after ChatGPT’s release at the end of November.

The AI company is also the current number-one website in SimilarWeb’s ‘Computers Electronics and Technology’ category, overtaking tech giants such as Zoom, AOL, Sharepoint and AT&T.

Due to ChatGPT, there are currently 24 million average daily visits to OpenAI, making the software the fastest-growing app in the world, according to investment bank UBS, which also reported that the technology had reached 100 million monthly active users by January.

“SimilarWeb traffic shows that OpenAI is quickly becoming one of the biggest websites in the world after going viral,” a spokesperson at Digital-adoption.com said.

“ChatGPT has been named ‘Google killer’ and an ‘AI revolution’, gaining notorious buzz. There is no denying how its popularity has caught on like wildfire, skyrocketing the company into global ranks within two months. Internet users are discovering new purposes for the chatbot daily, and along with it comes questions around regulation.”

The news comes hours after Google announced that it will launch an Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot technology called Bard to rival OpenAi’s Chat GPT. The software is set to be used by a group of testers before being released to the public in the coming weeks, according to the BBC.

In general, many marketers are beginning to question whether ‘Generative AI’ can create better content than humans and as a result replace people in the marketing profession.
