Kevin the Carrot stays Home Alone for Aldi Christmas 2022 advert

Kevin the Carrot makes his much-anticipated TV return today, Thursday, November 10 as Aldi launches its full Christmas advert for 2022.

Developed and directed by Aldi’s creative partner McCann, the ad continues to make reference to this year’s Christmas World Cup, while also bringing Kevin and co back to our screens for the sixth consecutive year.

This year’s Christmas ad will make its debut at 8.30pm on Channel 4 during the central ad break of Aldi’s Next Big Thing and will run to 31 December. The ‘Feast of Football’ campaign will develop as the World Cup progresses and is supported across digital, out-of-home (OOH), print, radio and social channels.

The ad follows on from last week’s teaser which saw Kevin and family waiting for a flight when he got distracted playing a game of football (in homage to Nike’s famous Airport 1998 World Cup ad) before getting separated from his family and missing his flight.

The teaser ends with a nod to the iconic ‘Home Alone’ scene when Catherine O’Hara realizes her son has been left behind which is where the full advert picks up, as Kevin spends the holidays in his house setting traps for an intruder who is lurking outside.

As the scene progresses, and his family makes a speedy return from Paris, the true identity of the home intruder becomes clear…

Aldi UK marketing director Adam Zavalis said: “Christmas celebrates the joy of being with loved ones and this year more than ever we all need a bit of light entertainment as we celebrate the season together.

“And it wouldn’t be the festive season without Kevin the Carrot on our TV screens, and this year’s Yuletide performance is sure to get the nation shouting ‘KEVIN!’ as we welcome him back for the seventh year.”

Kantar named last year’s Aldi Christmas advert – which was a version of Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” featuring Marcus Radishford, Ebanana Scrooge and of course Kevin the Carrot – the ad most likely to deliver both long and short term.
