Netflix toys with public in new Stranger Things OOH stunt

Netflix has been promoting the fourth season of Stranger Things by toying with fans over the past week with an experiential out-of-home (OOH) stunt.

Early last week, passers-by in Shoreditch London would have noticed three vintage posters, all advertising items from the show.

One was promoting ‘Totally Killer Pizza’, while another was advertising Hawkins Power and Light, captioned ‘The only thing keeping you from the darkness.’ The third featured the Grandfather clock that features throughout the latest series… ‘Every minute together counts.’

Moments after the billboard was spotted two people in Hazmat suits promptly arrived to cover up the central advertisement with a forensic tent. Netflix claimed at the time on Twitter that there was “nothing to see here…”

Once the tent was removed members of the public could notice a slight rip at the centre of the ‘Surfer Boy Pizza’ revealing cracks in the wall.

Two days later the poster was appeared to have a crack in it, with dark purple tentacles poking out, revealing a luminescent red light behind the poster. An entry into the infamous ‘Upside Down’? Netflix admitted: “Okay, maybe there’s something …”

An innovative OOH push from the streaming giant to say the least.

The poster is now available to explore in Shoreditch, with people able to enter the “Upside Down” portal to grab a slice of “mind flaying pizza”.
