UnHerd boycotted by advertisers after ‘anti-trans’ articles

Current affairs website UnHerd has found itself in the midst of a boycott from many online advertisers after publishing articles deemed to be anti-trans.

The Press Gazette reported that the UnHerd site has been placed on the Global Disinformation Index’s Dynamic Exclusion List, which provides data to online advertisers about websites that it considers unsafe for brands to appear on.

UnHerd chief executive and editor in chief Freddie Sayers told the Press Gazette that it means his site can only achieve between 2% and 6% of what it could expect via advertising, than if it had been given a brand safe rating.

Some of the articles published on the site in recent years include articles from the philosopher Kathleen Stock entitled ‘The problem with trans women are women’, and more.

Kathleen Stock had a speech interrupted by a trans activist at the Oxford Union last year.

The UnHerd site was founded in 2017 by Paul Marshall for comment-based articles, which are critical of consensus views.

Marshall also has a stake in GB news, and has been pitted as a potential purchaser of the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
