Marketing is still not considered an attractive choice by many, according to Mastercard CMO Raja Rajamannar.

He highlighted a survey by the Association of National Advertisers, which polled college students in the US, and found that marketing ranks below professions including accounting and nursing.

Speaking at a panel hosted by marketing publication The Drum at Davos, Rajamannar said that in the year he qualified, “marketing was the number one profession as a career choice”.

Meanwhile, Infosys CMO Sumit Virmani said that AI could help creatives flourish, explaining: “AI will definitely make us smarter, it will make us efficient it will drive productivity but the real opportunity is at the confluence of science and art”.

All of the panellists were in agreement that AI provides marketers with opportunities to sell themselves based on creativity, if they have the skills to use the new technology.

It comes as firms including WPP and Publicis have made big investments into AI this week. WPP revealed it planned to spend £250m on AI this year and Publicis is set to invest £255.6m in AI over the next three years.
