Walkers plays on family tensions in 2023 Christmas ad

Crisp brand Walkers is playing on the nation’s love of sharing with its 2023 Christmas ad campaign that highlights the frustrations and tensions of being together over the festive period.

Premiering on ITV tonight (13 November) during an episode of Coronation Street, the hero film is centred a series of comedic vignettes that lampoon the tensions caused by sharing around Christmastime – although this is never an issue with Walkers crisps.

Inspired by Nielsen data that reveals Christmas to be the most prolific moment of the year for sharing, the snacking brand’s campaign illustrates how its products are the perfect treats for it.

“While we know that we aren’t a nation renowned for our love of sharing, especially during the many testing moments we’re faced with at Christmas – there is one thing that is definitely made for sharing throughout the festive season, and that’s Walkers crisps,” Walkers senior marketing director, Wayne Newton said.

“At Walkers, we know that for many people, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a catch up with family and friends over a Walkers sharing bag – whether that’s at pre-Christmas get togethers or cosying up on the sofa for a Christmas Eve festive film.

“We hope that this year’s Christmas campaign brings a smile to the nation’s faces and reminds people that amongst the many shared occasions they’ll endure with friends and family this festive season – sharing a bag of Walkers is the biggest no brainer.”

With ad production handled by Another Film Company, media buying and placement was overseen by OMD. The wider campaign’s PR strategy will be led by Splendid Comms.
