WATCH: Lidl champions power of small gestures for Christmas 2023 ad

Lidl has debuted its Christmas 2023 ad which tells the story of a racoon who goes above and beyond to make one little boy’s day extra special.

Showcased across Lidl’s international markets, the campaign coincides with the German grocery retailer‘s announcement of the return of its festive Toy Bank initiative.

The 110-second advert centres around this theme of gift giving, and aims to remind viewers of the huge impact small acts of kindness can have during the festive season.

The Christmas spot begins with a raccoon observing a young boy’s gift from his mother – a toy monkey – being dropped on the cycle home.

Spotting the estranged festive present, the black and white striped protagonist jumps into action and crosses the city by any means possible – climbing road signs, riding the tube, and sailing on a log across a river.

The movie ends with the racoon reaching the family home and returning the toy to under the Christmas tree, just in time.

“At Christmas, there’s nothing more magical than seeing the joy a gift can bring to a child, and we want to help make sure this joy reaches all families,” said Lidl GB chief commercial officer, Peter de Roos.

“Our hope is that by bringing back the toy donation points we are making it easier, for those customers who can, to donate directly to local good causes by giving them a small way to make a real difference and help those that need it the most.”
