Subway steps in to McDonald’s vs Burger King ChatGPT feud

Subway has joined that ChatGPT battle that has been raging between between fast food giants McDonald’s and Burger King over the past several days with its own tongue-in-cheek dig.

The tête-à-tête began last week when McDonald’s unveiled a self-congratulatory billboard supposedly written by ChatGPT which answered ‘What is the most iconic burger in the world?’ with an ode to the Big Mac (naturally).

It arch-nemesis Burger King retorted with its own (supposedly) ChatGPT-penned ad that answered the question ‘Which burger is the biggest’ with another ode, but this time its own flagship – the Whopper.

“If there’s going to be a conversation on iconic sandwiches, Subway will of course get involved. What can we say – even ChatGPT knows our Footlongs are the biggest and best sandwich out there!” Subway UK & Ireland marketing director, Kirstey Elston said.

It would seem however that Subway has settled the bickering pair’s argument with a AI-powered out-of-home creative of its own – reminding everyone that in terms of size, both burgers pale in comparison to the sandwich chain’s iconic Footlong.

Saatchi & Saatchi chief creative officer, Franki Goodwin added: “There’s a lot of chat about ChatGPT and, while we try not to get too caught up in hype trends, we couldn’t resist getting in on this conversation.

“It’s a big moment for Subway with the launch of the new Series menu, and what can we say – ChatGPT says they’re the biggest too.”
