Microsoft introduces ChatGPT to Bing as AI arms race with Google begins

Microsoft has unveiled a new version of its search engine Bing, introducing OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology to the software.

The ‘Generative Artificial Intelligence’ tech has taken the world by storm since its launch in November last year. Many marketers have questioned whether ChatGPT has the potential to replace copywriting roles filled by humans.

The news that Microsoft has entered the ‘AI arms race’ comes a day after Google announced that it will launch an AI chatbot technology called Bard to rival OpenAi’s Chat GPT.

“The race starts today,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said.

An offshoot of Artificial Intelligence, software like that of Chat GPT and Bard, use algorithms and preexisting content to create text, images, code, video and more.

“This technology will reshape pretty much every software category that we know,” Nadella added.

According to the BBC, Bing will now respond to search queries with more detailed answers. Users will also be able to chat with the AI tech, with more contextual answers added to the right hand side of the page.

Yesterday, (7 February), OpenAI became the 44th most visited global website, according to the magazine ‘Digital-adoption.com’. Traffic to OpenAI has increased by 3,572%, from 18.3 million to 672 million visits after ChatGPT’s release at the end of November.

The AI company is also the current number-one website in SimilarWeb’s ‘Computers Electronics and Technology’ category, overtaking tech giants such as Zoom, AOL, Sharepoint and AT&T.

Due to ChatGPT, there are currently 24 million average daily visits to OpenAI, making the software the fastest-growing app in the world, according to investment bank UBS, which also reported that the technology had reached 100 million monthly active users by January.
