Primark is the latest retailer to jump on a viral trend after Marks & Spencer released a social spot featuring TV personalities Spencer Matthews and Mark Wright as part of its most recent fashion campaign.

After Matalan and John Lewis jumped on the trend, Primark took it one step further, challenging other retailers to find staff with names that match their stores.

“We found the Pri to our Mark @aldiuk how’s Al and Dee?”

It wasn’t long before Matalan jumped on the bandwagon and introduced its own stars; Matt and Alan.

“Matt and Alan, everyone’s new favourite duo. Ok we’ve started a real party here with Pri and Mark, John and Lewis and more but we’re missing Debenham’s, Greggs, Dorothy Perkins and more”

John Lewis soon introduced its partners John and Lewis with the line: “The party can begin, our partners John and Lewis have arrived”.

Matalan replied: “Yes John and Lewis. Now we’re friends… fancy giving us a hint for the Christmas ad.”

Commenters said: “I can practically hear the ad agency creating that Christmas ad right this second”.

Meanwhile chocolate brand Tony’s Chocolonely  replied: “Bit of a stretch… Any Chocolonely’s about?”.

Reiss asked followers to take to TikTok to meet its colleague Reiss.

It is not the first time retailers have taken to their social channels competed with each other online – everyone remembers the infamous Colin, Cuthbert debacle.
