New easyJet recruitment drive takes off with interactive spot

EasyJet is piloting a talking billboard and aptitude test in its latest drive to get more women in the profession.

The talking board, which has appeared in central London today, features a real life talking pilot who debunks myths about the job.

Meanwhile, the accompanying online aptitude test assesses some of the key skills required to be an airline pilot and has been designed with the aim of encouraging more women to join the career.

It gives people the chance to test out some key skills, such as sense of direction and reaction speed.

The interactive campaign comes after research carried out by easyJet revealed that 57% of people polled believe a university degree is required to become a pilot, while 80% think that 20/20 vision is needed. However, neither are needed to apply.

An additional survey revealed that when asked why they believed being a pilot is a role for men, most children cited that it was because they had never seen a female pilot.

easyJet captain Sarah Ackerley, who answered the public’s questions as part of the campaign, said: “Tackling gender stereotyping within aviation has been a long-standing mission for easyJet and I’m excited to be part of this latest campaign that’s allowing people to get a real insight into what skills are really important to do this job, and encourage more people into the profession.”

She continued: “It’s an immensely rewarding career that I’m proud to champion and I hope by more people taking our interactive test, they can challenge themselves to discover a talent they never knew they had and I hope to see them flying with us in the future.”

The campaign builds on ongoing work from easyJet around encouraging more women into the career, including pilot school visits and its summer flight school.
