Woof! Lovehoney ad says UK is ‘nation of doggy lovers’

Lovehoney has created a risqué new billboard celebrating the fact that the UK is “a nation of doggy lovers”, coinciding with the dog show Crufts.

The billboard, which is currently being showcased outside the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, features the words “We’re a nation of doggy lovers”, plastered on a green background featuring the Lovehoney logo.

A closer look (and we know you will) at the animated billboard shows the second “g” excitedly mounting the first…

While tongue-in-cheek, it taps into a truism – a 2023 survey revealed that the nation really is a lover of the sex position, with 38% of respondents expressing that it is their favourite way to express their love. For those of you interested, it was followed by cowgirl (28%), missionary (12%), mermaid (6%) and crossed lovers (5%).

Lovehoney also revealed that the nation has apparently been preparing itself for Crufts (despite the fact humans can’t enter the show) with sales of leads and collars from the retailer up by 33%.

A Lovehoney spokesperson said: “The United Kingdom really is a nation of doggy lovers, according to our own survey so what better time and place to reveal Britain’s position than at Crufts, the world’s greatest dog show! We believe that everyone deserves sexual happiness and we are delighted that doggy has won ‘best in show!'”

The stunt is not the first time Lovehoney has looked to make a (risky, shocking, or brave?) statement in the name of sexual wellness, positivity and pleasure.

A Christmas 2023 campaign focused on the Big O and was centred on both giving and receiving in what was the brand’s its first ever Christmas advert last year.

Also last year, the brand ran an advert which referenced Prince Harry’s memoir Spare. The ad, which the ASA banned, featured the phrase “silence is golden Harry”.

Maybe not if you’re trying to get public attention, Lovehoney?
