Ricky Gervais releases ‘worst advert ever’ for UK’s fastest-selling vodka brand

Ricky Gervais is being hailed as a ‘genius’ by social media followers after starring in the latest ad for premium vodka brand Dutch Barn – in which he outright discourages viewers from buying the product.

The new stripped-back ad highlights Gervais’ ultra-dry sense of humour and features ‘The Office’ star alongside a doctor (who he is at pains to point out is a paid actor) listing all the health risks associated with drinking alcohol before Gervais points to the bottle.

Branded ‘the worst advert ever’ on social media by Gervais himself, the clip follows on from another (equally hilarious) ad released just last week – in which Gervais encourages viewers to purchase the much-cheaper Smirnoff vodka if they don’t have the funds to indulge in Dutch Barn saying: “it does the trick.”

Since investing in the fledgling brand last Autumn, Gervais claims that Dutch Barn is the “fastest selling vodka brand in the UK”. The brand was also recently unveiled as York City FC’s lead sponsor.

When Gervais’ involvement with the brand was first revealed, he said: “I am thrilled to announce that I am now the proud co-owner of Ellers Farm Distillery, and we make Dutch Barn Vodka.

“It tastes great, it’s made from British apples, we’re committed to sustainability and the protection of the ecosystem. And the best bit is this could literally make me hundreds of millions so please buy it, yeah?

Concluding, he added: “Sure, like all strong liquor it may damage your liver and your wellbeing, but think how happy it’d make me if [he rubs his fingers together] … and the saving the planet thing.”
