Confusion surrounds Ricky Gervais’ investment in obscure vodka brand

Actor and comedian Ricky Gervais has followed in the footsteps of Ryan Reynolds by investing in, and actively taking part in the marketing content for his very own alcohol brand.

Founded last year, Dutch Barn vodka has been given a significant awareness boost through Gervais’ involvement, who has now become co-owner of the business.

Announcing the news via a video on his personal X account, Gervais said: “I am thrilled to announce that I am now the proud co-owner of Ellers Farm Distillery, and we make Dutch Barn Vodka.

“It tastes great, it’s made from British apples, we’re committed to sustainability and the protection of the ecosystem. And the best bit is this could literally make me hundreds of millions so please buy it yeah?

Concluding, he said: “Sure, like all strong liquor it may damage your liver and your wellbeing, but think how happy it’d make me if [he rubs his fingers together] … and the saving the planet thing.”

A certain degree of mystery has surrounded Gervais’ involvement with the nascent brand, which doesn’t appear to have a functioning marketing department at this stage, as it has declined to give any more details on ‘The Office’ star’s wider role.

Having recently gained B-Corp certification, it would appear that the firm’s purported sustainability commitments are genuine at least, forming part of its stated mission to “make the world’s best spirits in the most sustainable way”.

Dutch Barn founder, Chris Fraser added: “With so many hollow celebrity cash-for-face brand endorsement deals out there, we are really pleased to have forged an authentic partnership with Ricky involving both investment and creative leadership.

Ricky will be an integral part of the business going forward and will help shape how Dutch Barn is seen around the world and helping us make Dutch Barn a global success.”
