Breast Cancer Now sheds light on hidden stories with diverse film

Breast Cancer Now has unveiled a short film created by BMB, exploring what life is truly like for those living with secondary breast cancer.

Showcased across the charity’s YouTube channel, ‘Stories of Secondary’, features the stories of nine women from a diverse range of backgrounds, shedding light on what it is like to live with the disease.

While Breast Cancer Now has heard from many people living with the disease, the campaign comes amid people reaching out to say they often feel overlooked within the community.

The five minute advert, which marks Brest Cancer Awareness month, includes previously unseen material from interviews for BMB and Breast Cancer Now’s latest ad campaign – ‘If I had more time’ – which broke last month.

The advert also raises awareness the urgent need for further research, highlighted by the fact that one of the cast members, Patricia Swannell, sadly died just weeks after taking part in the campaign.

The film, which is dedicated in the memory of Patricia, follows in wake of research by the non-profit that shows the number of individuals being diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK is rising.

“We are so grateful to these 9 extraordinary women who share so candidly their experiences of living with this devastating disease,” said Breast Cancer Now director of fundraising, communications and engagement, Racheal Franklin.

“Through our new film, we aim to share a raw and intimate insight into the reality of living with incurable secondary breast cancer. It also highlights the need for more funding into research to develop treatments that could give those diagnosed additional precious time with their loved ones.”

BMB chief creative officer, Matt Lever added: “When we were capturing interviews with the cast of our latest TV ad campaign for Breast Cancer Now, it struck us how insightful and emotional these stories of secondary breast cancer are.

“We’re pleased to be able to provide a platform for these women to tell more of their stories, in their own words, with this short film.”

The latest campaign follows BMB’s previous work for Breast Cancer Now’s ‘The Chat’, which won multiple awards earlier this year, including two Cannes Lions in June and two gold Kinsale Shark Awards.
