Channel 4 is celebrating the age-old footballing rivalry between England and Scotland ahead of the two sides’ grudge match at Glasgow’s Hampden Park tomorrow evening (Tuesday 12 September.)

Created in-house by the broadcaster’s own agency, 4creative, ‘It’s just a friendly…honest!’ will aim to stoke the rivalry’s ancient fires and build the viewing public’s anticipations ahead of the match broadcast.

With media planning and buying handled by OMD, the campaign will run across TV, paid social, out-of-home and print in a selection of national and regional titles north and south of the border.

“Who other than Channel 4 would do a football campaign championing support for both teams? As a broadcaster proud to serve the length and breadth of the UK, both English and Scottish fans are our audience – this campaign is a true celebration of, and play on, being altogether different,” A Channel 4 spokesperson said.

Tuesday night’s match will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first-ever official international football match between the sides at Partick in November 1872, which ended 0-0. Fans will no doubt be hoping for a slightly more exciting match tomorrow night – even if it is only a friendly.
