WATCH: Greenpeace covers Fleetwood Mac’s iconic Don’t Stop for Glasto campaign

Greenpeace has created a new cover of the Fleetword Mac single Don’t Stop ahead of this year’s Glastonbury festival, as part of a campaign in collaboration with advertising agency Mother London.

Created to inspire the next generation of climate activists, the video will be shown on the big screens across the festival’s main stages with branding featuring across the site – including on Glastonbury’s iconic tote bags which will feature the slogan “Don’t Stop thinking about tomorrow”.

The song is produced by the award-winning Fraser T Smith (known for his work with Stormzy, Adele, Dave and Drake), with lyrics from Avelino and vocals from the House Gospel Choir. The lyrics are a reimagined version of the original song, with references to greed leading to climate change as corporations ignorantly party on.

The video is from Steve McQueen’s Lammas Park stable, directed by Samona Olanipekun and exec-produced by the Oscar-winning director (known for Small Axe, Hunger and 12 Years A Slave) himself.

Featuring Guardians of the Galaxy 3 actor Will Poulter and Avelino, the film starts at a vibrant party which gradually grows out of control until people are shaken awake by the urgent need for change.

“This short film is an arresting look at the state of the world hurtling out of control,” said McQueen.

“I’m so proud to have been in this project with Greenpeace and Samona, who’s once again shown what a talented writer and director he is. It captures the unease at seeing corporations (especially those of oil and gas) and their enablers, do damage to the environment on our behalf, acting like there’s no tomorrow and driving the climate crisis solely for their profit.”

Greenpeace executive director Areeba Hamid said: “When you look at the state of the world that older generations have wrought, oil companies partying like there’s no tomorrow, politicians watching as our house is on fire, it can feel overwhelming. But awareness and resolve to save our planet, to save lives and livelihoods, has never been stronger”.

“People all over the world are incredibly worried about their future, but they hold enormous power. The film is a message of hope: that demanding a better tomorrow is not only possible, but critical.”
