Spotify appoints Snap’s Ed Couchman as its new ad sales boss

Spotify has appointed Ed Couchman as its new head of advertising sales for Northern Europe.

Couchman is currently Snapchat’s regional general manger of DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), the Netherlands, Nordics and the UK.

His new remit for Spotify will include the UK, the Nordics and other international campaigns.

Prior to his time at Snap – which he joined in 2018 – the new ad sales boss worked for Channel 4 and Facebook.

While the music streaming app’s sales mainly come from digital subscriptions, music and podcast ads have also proven to be a growing revenue source for the company. The UK alone generated £765 million in 2021 in total revenues from subscription, totalling 10% of the brand’s global revenues.

Starting in January, Couchman will join a regional operation led by Spotify Europe, Middle East and Africa head of enterprise sales, Rakesh Patel.

The news comes months after Spotify opened a pop-up ‘greasy spoon’ cafe in Shoreditch, cleverly named ‘Greasy Tunes’ in the hopes of bringing fans and creators closer together.
