A Tampax tweet has gone viral on Twitter after causing widespread offence to many users on the platform.
Yesterday, Tampax US wrote: “You’re in their DMs. We’re in them. We are not the same.”

We are not the same.— Tampax US (@Tampax) November 21, 2022
The tweet is intended to be a take on a popular meme phrase that compares one person to another when dating.
Many Twitter users have reacted to the tweet negatively, calling the marketing activation ‘misogynistic’ for ‘sexualising’ the use of tampon products.
A member of the public wrote: “Real weird for a company that sells products made for women’s natural bodily functions to make a tweet sexualising women for using their products …. lmfao fire your social media manager, this is gross.”

Others have threatened to boycott the brand, claiming that the tweet was “written by men, for men”.
“Why are you and Always using MEN to MANsplain menstruation to women and girls? Why are you paying MEN to advertise products for woman while taking a paid advertising job away from an actual woman? Will continue to boycott your products,” another Twitter user wrote.

The news comes as the platform continues to attract the attention of the world under Elon Musk’s ownership.
Last week, Omnicom Media Group advised its clients to pause advertising spend on Twitter, joining IPG Mediabrands as the latest agency group to lose trust in the social media app due to the spread of misinformation and controversy on the platform.
