BBC Children in Need enters TikTok to raise donations

BBC Children in Need has launched an account on TikTok in a bid to raise donations on the social media app.

Capturing events from across the country, the brand’s account intends to make it easier for the TikTok community to get involved by tapping an official TikTok Donation Sticker for the charity.

Ahead of the BBC Children in Need Appeal Night Show, on 18 November, the charity will be sharing everything from behind the scenes content to fundraising updates, encouraging users of the app to add donation stickers to their content and also donate to the cause with an amount of their choosing.

Joe Wicks will also host an ‘Ultra Marathon’ event, live streaming on the BBC Children in Need TikTok account.

A variety of TikTok stars including Luke Vernon, Brandon Baum, Lara Mason, Richard Sales, Mc Logughlin Girls and Mesha Moinirad will also come together for a 24-hour TikTok live stream to help drive fundraising donations on the night of the Appeal Show.

“We are thrilled to launch a TikTok account for BBC Children in Need helping them reach new audiences and building on the huge success they had last year’s fundraising on TikTok,” TikTok UK managing director, James Stafford, said.

“The TikTok community has a huge heart, and we hope the donation sticker will enable them to support and share this worthy cause.”

Fundraising challenges during the 24-hour live stream will include creating a life size Pudsey cake, Pudsey blind makeovers and ‘SPOTacular football contests’.

BBC Children in Need commercial director, Claire Hoyle, added: “We are absolutely delighted to be launching a TikTok account to help us reach new audiences, and further entertain our wonderful supporters digitally. Pudsey will very much sit at the heart of our channel, and we hope everyone enjoys getting to know our cheeky, but incredibly kind and charitable bear.”

The news comes months after Tesco launched a TikTok competition that gave Clubcard members the chance to become the voice shoppers hear at checkouts.
