Waitrose customer director behind brand’s Xmas ads departs from his role

Waitrose customer director Martin George has departed his role after more than five years at the company.

George has spearheaded various marketing campaigns for the brand including the Waitrose Christmas ads and the ‘You can taste when it’s Waitrose & Partners’ campaign.

The ex-customer director intends to attain non-executive positions and attribute more time towards charity work, mentoring and coaching. In spite of his departure, he will however continue his support of the supermarket’s customer team until his replacement is hired.

George began his career at Cadbury in brand management, before moving to British Airways in 1987.

Eventually attaining the role of commercial director at the airline, George then moved on to be hired by Bupa in 2008 for an interim marketing director role.

Just after leaving Bupa for the Post Office, the ex-customer director joined Waitrose as customer director in 2017, and held non-executive roles at private GP network London Doctors Clinic, Grays of Cambridge, PrivateFly, and Hornby Hobbies.

“After five wonderful years with the partnership I’ve decided that the time is right, both personally and professionally, for me to step down,” George said.

“It is the unrivalled commitment and capability of our partners that gives me every confidence in the future.”
