Nationwide’s CMO leaves her role after six years

Nationwide’s chief product and marketing officer Sara Bennison is set to depart from her position after six years at the company.

Last year, Bennison was recognised for the ways in which Nationwide handled increasing levels of abuse towards staff during the pandemic. The ex-CMO led a campaign that opened a discussion with the government’s Sentencing Council with aims to enforce stricter laws around worker abuse.

Sharing a LinkedIn post yesterday, Bennison wrote: “As Nationwide turns a page in Debbie Crosbie’s very capable hands, the time has come for me to do the same. I shall be returning to my garden to think about what that next chapter should be for me with a heart full of thanks to everyone who has made the last six years such a joy.”

Bennison also wrote that it was “a pleasure” to create campaigns with agencies VCCP and Wavemaker over the years.

Prior to her time at Nationwide, Bennison spent seven years at Barclays working as the bank’s CMO after a year as head of marketing communications at BT.

The ex chief product and marketing officer also spent time working for agency Grey London as a managing partner.

A spokesperson for Nationwide told Campaign Live that Bennison had spent the past six years “transforming Nationwide’s communications, propositions and service, and recently helping to deliver a great set of financial results for members”.

“In that time, she has helped strengthen Nationwide’s brand, secured its leading position for service, and built a highly effective team around her. Sara leaves the Society in great shape and we wish her every success for the future.”
