TikTok unveils music distribution platform SoundOn

TikTok has launched a new music marketing and distribution platform SoundOn, which will allow artists to directly upload their music to the social media app.

SoundOn will also enable creators to upload their music to streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer, with content being monetised.

Up-and-coming artists will equally benefit from audience insight reports and marketing advice, as the platform will pay the artist 100% of royalties in the first year, but this will drop to 90% from the second year.

“New artists and musical creators are a vibrant community within TikTok and SoundOn is designed to support them as they take the first steps in their career”, TikTok global head of music, Ole Obermann said.

“Our SoundOn teams will guide creators on their journey to the big stage and bring the expertise and power of TikTok to life for the artist.

“We’re incredibly excited about how this will surface and propel new talent and how SoundOn will contribute to an increasingly diverse and growing global music industry.”

One of the first artists to join the platform, who is at the start of her music career, Abby Roberts, said she is “excited” to see what is still to come.

“I’ve worked with the team at TikTok through my whole career and they’ve always been so supportive of me, so I really valued the extra support and help I’ve got from SoundOn launching my music now as well.”
