Boots CMO Pete Markey named ISBA president

The ISBA has named Boots chief marketing officer Pete Markey as its new president, taking over from Natwest CMO Margaret Jobling who has been president for the past two years.

Markey has served as ISBA vice president for the past five years and will work closely with ISBA director general Phil Smith. His role will comprise of chairing the ISBA Council, which is made up of CMOs from across the membership.

Markey, who has previously held senior roles at TSB, Aviva, the Post Office, RSA and More TH>N, has been a member of the ISBA for the majority of his career.

Well-known for his results-driven approach, ISBA describes Markey as a “highly experienced marketing leader at both global and regional levels, specialising in data and analytics, and customer experience”.

Within his current role, Markey and his team at Boots have established Boots Media Group, which enables brands to deliver high-performing connected marketing campaigns.

“Throughout my career, ISBA has been a constant presence, providing guidance, best practice and offering me the opportunity to share challenges and solutions with my peers. I am very proud to be assuming the role of president,” said Markey.

Commenting on Markey’s appointment, Smith said he was “thrilled” will be the new ISBA president, adding:”He has always flown the flag for ISBA and supported our priorities and is the perfect person to lead ISBA into its 125th year.”

Markey recently revealed that he believes the secret to being a good CMO is to be “part artist, part scientist and part cheerleader for the business”.
