Argos store set to appear on famous Coronation Street cobbles

An Argos storefront will be making an appearance on the famous Coronation Street cobbles, marking the first time a commercial sponsor has ‘set up shop’ on the show.

The retailer, which is now part of Sainsbury’s, has renewed its sponsorship of the flagship ITV soap for another two years, running through to December 2026. The ecommerce retailer has sponsored the show since 2021.

As part of a wider product placement opportunity, a store façade will appear within the show for the very first time, as the Argos store will be taking up residence on Victoria Street from this July.

The extensive agreement, which covers licensing, digital and social activation and broadcast, will also introduce Sainsbury’s’ bags for life and products woven into the daily lives of the show’s characters.

“Coronation Street is one of the country’s most iconic TV shows which our customers know and love, so continuing our sponsorship made perfect sense,” said Argos head of campaigns, Laura Boothby.

“We hope the new Argos store brings familiarness and fun to viewers watching from home and perhaps see Ken Barlow popping in to Click & Collect a new kettle!”

After more than 60 years on air, Coronation Street reaches an estimated 7 million viewers each week and has been streamed over 43 million times this year.

ITV Director of Commercial Sales and Partnerships, Mark Trinder added: “We are proud and excited to be continuing and expanding the relationship between two of the nation’s most loved and recognised brands.

“In a world where context, creativity and engagement can sometimes suffer, this partnership delivers on all. This has been a detailed and collaborative renewal process for which I’m grateful to the many ITV teams, PHD/Drum and of course to Argos and Sainsbury’s for their approval and ongoing support.”

  • There’s already a Hays Travel and previously a well known coffee shop, Is that still there? So Argos is not the first. Will this mean we’re going to see stand a lone Argos stores once again on our streets, all in my area were moved into Sainsburys stores.

  • Not sure this is a first given it’s already had a number of stores including Co-op, Costa, EE and Hays Travel?
