X, formerly known as Twitter, has started giving blue ticks to its most popular users, in a dramatic twist in policy.

The move will mean that the X , or formerly twitter… famous will get the once coveted tick in addition to those who pay for X Premium.

Some users have expressed dismay at having the blue tick again. “I have a blue tick again. I don’t know. I’ve honestly no idea what they’re doing over there. But to be clear: I did not pay for it and I never will while Musk is in charge,” columnist Ian Dunt tweeted.

“I did not pay for, or ask for, the blue check,” wrote science professor Michael E Mann before successfully going on to remove it.

It comes in the wake of Musk coming under fire for agreeing to a tweet that appeared to be an antisemitic statement, this led to advertisers including IBM, Disney and more dropped advertising from the platform.
