Pot Noodle disgusts and delights in equal measure with quirky new ad

Pot Noodle is celebrating its cult status with a quirky new advert that highlights how ‘Nothing Satisfies Like a Pot Noodle’.

Developed by London-based creative agency Adam&EveDDB, the film sees a bemused and somewhat disgusted office reacting to one of their colleagues’ immensely satisfied slurping noises as she tucks in to a Chicken & Mushroom Pot Noodle.

Positioning the brand as the go-to on-the-go lunch option, Pot Noodle recently made headlines after it became embroiled in a dispute with discount retailer Aldi over perceived similarities between its own-brand ‘Mumbai Mad Boy’ snack and Pot Noodle’s ‘Bombay Bad Boy’ flavour.

The campaign follows on from the brand’s bizarre “Nothing Fills a Hole Like a Pot Noodle’ ad released last year, which saw the state of Britain’s roads brought front-and-centre as potholes up-and-down the nation were filled with the instant snack.

Firmly tongue-in-cheek, the work went to secure numerous award nominations, and even scooped up a Bronze Grand Prix at the 2023 Cannes Lions.

Different ends of the telescope clearly used to write the headline. I imagine the disgusted group are the Boomers as you lot call us. That seems to allow you to dismiss our opinions as irrelevant as we are not your target audience. Conversely, generation Z and all the other silly terms used to describe the under 40s will possibly realise the crudity displayed in this ad. Possibly some will even see it as bringing back fond reminders of drunken Pot Noodle slurping races with mates at uni. Indeed, that may well have been the source of this ad in the first place at a brainstorming session. How creative!

Thanks to this truly revolting advert my 6 year old son almost choked to death last night,
so I can certainly tell you that I am NOT delighted by it as you suggest some people are!!
I made him a Pot Noodle for his tea, he said that was what he wanted,
because of his age I only make it warm and NOT boiling hot!!
Anyway, I went out of the room for a minute when I heard my son violently retching and coughing!!
I went back to our living room to find him on the floor choking, fighting for his life!!
After I’d gotten him to bring it all back up I asked him what had happened and he said he was copying the woman on television,
meaning the idiot in this highly irresponsible advert!!
I have phoned Pot Noodle and the Advertising Standards Agency who are both taking the matter seriously and are due to contact me very soon!!
For the people who are ‘Delighted’ by this advert as you proudly proclaim,
can I ask them to consider my young impressionable son and the next child who may not be as lucky as mine!!

  • Infuriating advert, with various facets of disgusting behavior attached to it; promotes greed, bad manners and a potential danger of choking to children if they were to mimic it. Classic manifestation of mind boggling arrogance of multi million pound companies that see themselves as beyond reproach. Needs a concerted online campaign to hurt them financially..

  • One of the worst advertising campaigns ever! This appalling advert must have deterred more than it has attracted. Was it made with the idea that there’s no such thing as bad publicity? 🤮👎🏻

I am glad that people have objected to this ad. Every time it comes on, I mute the sound. What an utterly disgusting ad, and who would even want to work with a ‘slob’ like that? It is not funny. It is not a question of being averse to the sound as the apology claims. It is an unthinking ad, and a very rude ad, thought up by presumably ‘Clever’ people.

Rotten Ad: No more ‘Pot Noodle’ in this house ever again.

  • I sent a complaint to the Advertising Standards Association with complaints similar to those above (disgusting noise, danger of choking and/or scalding of children who try it) and received the results of the “inquiry” telling me (here in a nutshell) that a) it was meant to be humourous, b) at the times it was shown there would be adults present to watch their children and c) it was aimed at adults anyway

    Reply
  • So they listened to the complaint`s appologised and all they did was shorten the advert, absolutely discusting. i`m sorry but people really need to totally stop buying pot noodles out of protest to show them how bad this advert is.

    • Not really apologised, read an article about it and they were very dismissive about the complaints, blamed the complainers for not keeping up with changes. To say t was meant to be humorous is a joke, think the amount of complaints have proved they are way off.

  • The only thing the clever, proud and back patting Marketers achieved is to alienate me, along with hundreds of thousands, if not millions, from Pot Noodle for life! I can no longer eat them because my brain now associates that noise with Pot Noodles! Well done you clever marketing folk…! Maybe if proper research had been completed, they’d have learned that we ‘complainers’ genuinely cannot help our ‘Misophonia’, just as anyone with genuine phobias cannot. We also cannot help having manners…! They think they were being humorous and we should keep up with the changes? Ok, hands up all those marketers with Acrophobia, lets meet for a bungie jump to discuss the advert…!

  • Changing the disgusting slurp for cats, etc doesn’t work. The original crap is embedded in our minds now. A huge fail by the marketing people.

I complained to asa about this advert, your solution was clever and ingenious, my compliments. Asa did not want to pass on compliments. So congratulations on your resolution.

  • Idiot product ad. Made for idiots by idiots. Do yourselves a favour and sack your advertising team and remove the advert. It’s as stupid with all the crap sounds now added. People remember the first one and will still hate it. Make a new advert made by people who know how to sell a product, not idiots who try to be funny.
