On the Beach hits back at ‘fattist, snobby’ ad backlash

On the Beach Holidays has hit back at comments about its recent ad campaign, which it deemed “fattist” and “snobby”.

Comments about the campaign, which promotes free airport lounge access to families, on X, formerly Twitter, and YouTube included remarks referring to class and weight.

One comment beneath the video on YouTube read: “This company is definitely for the council estate family holiday who just want to sit around the pool and eat and drink as much as possible”.

Another read: “Well I’m definitely not booking any holidays with this outfit, if this is the type of asbo family they’re encouraging”.

Responding to the comments on X, On the Beach chief customer officer Zoe Harris wrote: “We’ve seen a lot of fattist, snobby comments about our TV ad and the family we’ve used”.

“It’s 2024 and some people are still hiding behind keyboards to hurl abuse at a family, including two children. This is a polite reminder that everyone has a right to holiday and everyone has a right to airport lounge access. Be kind. Don’t be a booking idiot online.”
