Cheap off-brand ‘fake’ Magnum causes relationship break down

A woman sees the entire fabric of her long-term relationship unravel after her boyfriend buys fake, off-brand Magnum in the iconic ice cream brand’s hilarious – but beautifully shot – new ad.

Developed by Barcelona-based agency Lola Mullenlowe, the 60s-style film pokes fun at the myriad supermarket-brand knock-off versions of Magnum available, making it clear that none of them come close to the real thing.

Upon discovering that her boyfriend has bought a box of ‘fake’ Magnum classics, a woman begins to question what else her lover might be hiding as she realises her partner is not quite what he seems…

Wandering around his inexplicably gargantuan post-modern home, his (soon-to-be former) girlfriend discovers a multitude of damning clues as to her boyfriend’s true colours; including a fake tennis trophy, various photoshopped pictures of him fishing and mountain climbing, a deceptively lights barbell, and to cap it all off – a fake moustache.

The unexpectedly dramatic turn of events closes with the woman visiting her local corner shop to get a proper dose of the luxurious ice cream bar, which she rather sensually enjoys in her car.

The ad ends with the strapline: “Like a Magnum is not Magnum. Stick to the original.”
