Wavemaker to handle ad strategy for new government dept

Wavemaker has been appointed by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to handle all media and strategy planning.

The agency is the first to be appointed by the DSIT, which was newly formed in 2023 with the aim of positioning the UK at the forefront of global scientific development by 2030. The DSIT took on the previous responsibilities of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Department for Digital Culture Media and Sport.

Wavemaker will support the DSIT’s goals, which include delivering talent programmes, physical and digital infrastructure, as well as regulation, security and public service.

The agency will assist with the strategic media placement of domestic and international campaigns to attract talent and investment into the UK science and technology sectors.

“Through cost-effective and efficient media strategy and planning, we are playing our part in supporting DSIT with its ambition to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of science, innovation, and technological development,” said Wavemaker UK managing partner Oliver Halliwell.

“The commitment to these fields is vital for the UK’s future economic growth.”

It recently appointed Chris Worsley into the role of global performance lead, as it aims to spur growth.

In October Wavemaker was appointed partner in a £20 million deal for the Merlin entertainment account.

Last month the WPP owned agency lost its Wilkinson Sword account to VCCP, with the agency winning the account off the back of a string of successful pitches.
