Watch: John Lewis releases 10-second teaser of 2023 Christmas ad

John Lewis has followed in Asda’s footsteps and released a 10-second tease of its highly-anticipated 2023 Christmas ad.

With just John Lewis and Tesco left to release their festive campaign, the stakes are high as the high street giant shared the trailer across its social media platforms earlier this morning, offering a hint at what is in store.

The short clip shows a young boy browsing at a vintage market before finding a box labelled ‘grow your own perfect Christmas tree’. The strapline – ‘traditions grow – offers a heavy hint that this is likely to be the main focus of the ad.

The full advert is expected to be unveiled this Thursday, 9 November, with consumers being encouraged to sign up to John Lewis’ newsletter to be among the first to see the ad in full.

While the John Lewis ad looks likely to be another heart-warming release from the retailer, most major retailers and brands have already released their Christmas campaigns for this year, with many leaning heavily into the celebrity angle.

M&S Food notably bought Dawn French back as the Fairy, but also enlisted Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to add a bit of A-list star quality to proceedings.

Elsewhere, Asda and Sainsbury’s have gone head-to-head on the Christmas crooners, signing up Michael Buble and 80s popstar Rick Astley respectively, while even Waitrose has Eurovision star Graham Norton swooping in to save the day.
