Pride in London champions trans allyship with ‘Never March Alone’ message

Pride in London is championing trans allyship for 2023 with its powerful ‘Never March Alone’ campaign, set to hit the capital on 1 July.

The campaign has been designed to support members of the trans and non-binary community as they face increased adversity from the media and recent political developments, including the blocking of Scotland’s gender reforming act.

It will be shown across OOH, digital and social and will help frame content from each of the Pride in London stages across the city, highlighting that the trans community has its full support.

‘Never March Alone: Championing Trans Allyship’ will feature a series of photographic and video portraits of members of the trans and non-binary community and those who stand with them, featuring messaging developed with a group of trans advocates including Mz Kimberly, Hannah and Jake Graf and Dani St. James.

Hannah Graf MBE, said: “Jake and I were delighted to be able to help Pride in London shape its 2023 campaign and it was of course of paramount importance to us that all facets of our community felt included.

“With the recent influx of transphobic headlines and commentators, the trans and non-binary community needs support more than ever. Never March Alone is a powerful message which centres trans people, while also celebrating the rest of the community and their vital support and allyship.”

The recent media narrative of the trans community as being a problematic and marginalised minority follows a similar dangerous rhetoric which was used against homosexuals in the 1980s.

In 2021-2022, hate crimes targeting transgender people increased by 56%, as the number of overall offences hit a record high in England and Wales.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said Pride In London was part of the reason the city is renowned across the globe as a “beacon of inclusion and diversity”.

“The march of solidarity and celebration has helped to change our society and I’m pleased that this year’s campaign will be in support of the capital’s trans and non-binary community,” he added.

Pride in London CEO Christopher Joell-Deshields described the movement as “much more than a celebration of our vibrant community; it is a powerful gathering that fosters unity and support”.

“Amidst the ongoing adversity faced by the LGBT+ community worldwide, we want every trans and non-binary person to feel the unwavering solidarity we offer. You are not alone – we stand with you.”
