Twitter CEO and owner Elon Musk has announced that he has found a new chief executive to take his place, but the Tesla founder has not revealed the person’s identity.
Musk tweeted yesterday (11 May): “Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks!
“My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops.”

Shortly after the tweet was posted, the Wall Street Journal reported that NBCUniversal head of advertising Linda Yaccarino was in talks to head up the company. Yaccarino helped launch NBC’s ad-tier for its Peacock streaming service and is also said to be an advocate for finding more efficient ways to measure advertising effectiveness, according to The Guardian.

Since Musk acquired the social media company in October, Twitter has been surrounded by controversy.
Last month, Twitter’s advertising proposition was thrown into further turmoil following an unseemly spat between its CEO, Elon Musk and the New York Times newspaper. The paper announced that it would not be paying Twitter’s US$ 1,000(£810)-monthly fee to remain ‘Blue Tick’ verified, alongside several other organisations and celebrities.
Musk fired a tirade of criticism at the paper in the form of several acerbic and increasingly vulgar tweets in which he likened the New York Times’ content to diarrhoea.
