Apple TV+ hires marketing lead behind Disney+

Apple TV+ has appointed veteran marketer Ricky Strauss as its new head of marketing.

Strauss is known for leading the marketing and content for the launch of Disney’s streaming service Disney+ and has also held the role of president of programming for Hulu and Disney+.

In his new role, Strauss will head up media, consumer marketing campaigns, creative advertising and promotions for the streaming service’s original series and films.

Working under Apple TV+ vice president Tor Myhren, the new head of marketing will become a member of Apple’s Los Angeles-based marketing communications team.

During his time as president of marketing for Walt Disney Studios, Strauss worked on films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Marvel’s The Avengers, Frozen and Moana. He also spent seven years as president of Participant Media, overseeing films like The Help, An Inconvenient Truth and The Cove.

This year, Apple’s streaming service will release Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Lasseter’s animated film Spellbound, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, and spy thriller Argylle.

In November last year Apple was branded as one of most inspiring brands in the world according to Wunderman Thompson’s Inspire Score: to Top 100 2022.
