Aer Lingus Christmas ad flies away from typical airport reunions

Aer Lingus has released its 2022 Christmas spot, subverting the notion of conventional airport reunions.

Teaming up with creative agency Verve Showrunner, the airline showcases the excitement of greeting family members during the festive season, yet the viewer may be surprised to find out which family member is flying home to Dublin.

The 90-second spot, ‘Sadie’s Home’, sees a young man – played by Shaun Dunne – decorate his house while he eagerly awaits Sadie’s return.

Towards the end of the ad, directed by Claire Byrne through Alfonso Films, in an atypical airport reunion, the long-lost family member is revealed to be in the form of man’s best friend, specifically a Border Collie dog.

The news comes a month after EasyJet released a new recruiting campaign in the UK, encouraging adults aged over 45 to join the company as cabin crew members.

The ‘Empty Nesters Take Flight’ campaign was targeted towards parents whose children have left home.

According the airline, around 78% of British parents aged 45 and over wish to embark on a new challenge once their children move on from their family homes. Since 2018, EasyJet has witnessed a 27% increase in cabin crew members over the age of 45.
