Iceland drops festive parody of ‘The Crown’ to promote turkey price promise

Iceland has today released a tongue-in-cheek parody of Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ to promote its turkey products for the upcoming festive season.

In its latest TV spot, the supermarket chain announced that it will be freezing prices for its frozen turkeys from now until Christmas.

The mock-credits scene touts the frozen food specialist’s credentials, positioning its turkeys as ‘fit for royalty’ all set to music oddly reminiscent of ‘The Crown’s’ intro.

“We bow down to Netflix’s family orientated drama and pay homage to the fictional dramatisation in our version of The Crown,” Iceland food marketing director, Caspar Nelson said.

“We do want to point out the differences though. Our version is inspired by the real-life events of a frozen turkey and the political and personal events that shape a delicious Christmas dinner.”

The film also raises awareness around Iceland’s Turkey Insurance, which guarantees customers who register by 18 November delivery of a Christmas turkey no matter what.
