McDonald’s recruits Maya Jama to front McCrispy launch campaign

McDonald’s has unveiled an ad campaign to promote the launch of its new McCrispy chicken burger.

Throughout the duration of the spot, TV personality Maya Jama interrupts various unsuspecting members of the public who are trying to enjoy their chicken burger in peace. The likes of rapper and actor Michael Dapaah and comedian Keith Lemon also feature in the ad.

Produced by creative agency Leo Burnett London, the 60-second ‘Chicken for chicken lovers’ video intends to create hype around the release of the food chain’s new product.

The film, directed by SimilarButDifferent through Smuggler, also aims to appeal to gamers given that YouTube gamer Elz The Witch has a cameo in the ad.

“This campaign is a shining example of the populist creativity that Leo Burnett champions,” Leo Burnett UK executive creative director, Mark Elwood, said.

“With references that appeal to a wide audience, the McCrispy campaign ties in various aspects of UK culture: from enjoying a Maccies at your desk, to tucking in during the drive to uni… the ad aims to resonate with all UK chicken lovers.”

The launch campaign also saw Red Consultancy create a McCrispy Gaming House event which invited footballers, celebrities and influencers to try the new Burger.

McDonald’s UK & Ireland marketing director, Steve Howells, added: “McCrispy is our most exciting chicken launch in years, with chicken-loving celebrities giving our new crispier, crunchier chicken burger their seal of approval.

“We can’t wait for McDonald’s fans to try this game-changing addition to our menu and of course, to see the ad.”
