International messaging platform Whatsapp has launched a new global awareness campaign as it looks to familiarise its users with a range of new privacy features.

Whatsapp’s global marketing campaign is slated to begin in the UK and India this month, with a focus on the app’s core privacy USPs and the advanced multi-layered protections it offers.

Designed to help give its users increased protections, the new features will include the ability to leave a group chat without notifying other members – only the group admin. Users will now also be able to manage who can see their online status, enabling them to use the app with greater privacy.

The service is also set to begin blocking users from taking screenshots of ‘view once’ messages, currently at the testing stage, this update will be implemented soon.

Whatsapp’s existing, flagship features of end-to-end encryption, two-step verification, end-to-end encrypted backups and disappearing messages will remain in place.

“We’ll keep building new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as face-to-face conversations,” Meta founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg said.

Whatsapp head of product, Ami Vora added: “Over the years, we’ve added interlocking layers of protection to help keep their conversations secure, and the new features is one way we continue to deliver on our commitment to keep messages private.”

“No other global messaging service at this scale provides this level of security for their users’ messages, media, voice messages, video calls, and chat backups. We believe WhatsApp is the most secure place to have a private conversation.”
