KFC and Pizza Hut owner Yum! to permanently exit Russia

Yum! Brands is planning to permanently remove its KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants from Russia as the invasion of Ukraine continues.

The fast food company is in the advanced stages of transferring the ownership of its KFC restaurants, franchise rights and operating system to a ‘local’ operator.

The firm is also completing the transfer of its ownership of all Pizza Hut assets to an operator, who has apparently started the process of re-branding the chain.

Last month, Russia re-branded its former McDonald’s restaurants under the name ‘Vkusno i Tochka’ which directly translates as ‘Tasty and that’s it’.

Marriot, Renault and Starbucks have also recently suspended operations in the country as the Russian invasion of Ukraine rages on.

While Yum! Brands has removed itself from Russia, it still continues to carry out various humanitarian efforts.

“Those humanitarian efforts include a $1 million donation from the Yum! Brands Foundation to the Red Cross to support those affected by the crisis, activating the Yum! Disaster Relief Fund to support Ukrainian franchise employees, and matching donations from employees to the following charities providing relief in Ukraine: UNICEF, Red Cross, World Food Programme and International Rescue Committee,” Yum! Brands added.

“In addition, our franchisees in the surrounding regions are providing food for refugees.”
