Dentsu becomes latest firm to pull out of Russia

Advertising agency, Dentsu has suspended its business in Russia, affecting 1,500 jobs in the country.

The news comes as WPP, Publicis Groupe and IPG have all announced the ceasing of operations in Russia amid the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

The firm has declared that it is reviewing its operations from the perspective of conforming with international sanctions.

As a global company, it is also continuing negotiations to transfer the ownership of its joint venture in Russia to a local partner.

In addition to discontinuing business under Putin’s regime, the agency has also pledged to donate ¥100 million as humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and the surrounding areas. This donation is further to the prior £250,000 the company gave as urgent aid to the Ukrainian Red Cross Society on 25 February.

Support has also been provided to Dentsu’s Ukrainian staff.

“Approximately 500 people were working for our affiliate with a local partner that handled the Group’s business in Ukraine,” Dentsu said.

“But business has already been suspended and we are providing family transfer, legal and housing support for those employees together with employment opportunities at other Dentsu companies in other regions.”

The advertising agency is also providing, legal assistance, accommodation arrangements, psychological care, border transfers and assistance with daily necessities for refugees.
