Sportswear retailer JD Sports celebrates the opening of its new Manchester store with Olympic record breaker Usain Bolt and YouTubers Beta Squad.

The store will open in the Old Trafford Centre on 7 June and is said to be the world’s largest JD Sports store, clocking in at 41,000 square feet.

As part of the opening festivities, a select few fans will be able to show off their running prowess to Bolt and try to beat his time on the Puma Nitro 100 metre sprint challenge. Consumers will have the chance of winning a pair of AM95 OG Mandarin and AM95 OG Pink Foam kicks on opening day.

There will be Crep Protect demos and giveaways and Unlike Humans’ ice cream truck will attend the event.

Marcus Briggs, managing director at Pradera Lateral, Trafford Centre’s asset management firm, said: “The anticipation and excitement has been building for this opening of JD’s Trafford Centre flagship store.”

The respective property, marketing and design teams have worked extremely hard to deliver a store of global significance for our Trafford Centre visitors and we are all delighted with the outcome. We really value our longstanding partnership with JD,” he added.

Customers visiting the new retail space will be able to find special takeovers from Nike, Adidas, Puma and On Running.

According to the retailer, the store is a “key milestone” in its JD Brand first strategy.
