May the fourth be with you. This Sunday, 4 May, is the annual, unofficial celebration of all things Star Wars.

So, to commemorate “Star Wars Day”, this week’s Absolute Best features our favourite advertisements from the popular sci-fi franchise.

McDonald’s

McDonald’s celebrated the release of Episode I in 1999 with a Star Wars-themed Happy Meal.

The ad follows a Jedi training session and features a young Darth Maul. It ends with the children taking a well-deserved break from their training session by enjoying a Happy Meal.

Volkswagen

VW takes us to the Obi-Wan Kenobi “Star Wars” set in this offering.

The ad follows R2D2 and C3PO, who are confused by an electric Volkswagen ID Buzz. The two explore the van alongside some other space visitors, before the van is taken away by none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi himself.

Star Wars Episode V

Celebrating its 45th anniversary on 20 May, The Empire Strikes Back was part of the original trilogy of Star Wars films (and was the best of the trilogy, if you ask some fans).

It stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher.

Darth Vader goes to Disneyland

Darth Vader and his stormtroopers take on the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’ in this advertisement for the then-new Star Tours Ride.

The ad sees Vader and his minions visit classic Disneyland attractions, trying their hand at pulling the sword from the stone and viewing the fireworks.

Vader even takes a turn on the teacups before using the force to break into the new ride.
