Watch: Nando’s ditches mealtime shame in Peri-Ketchup ad

News

Nando’s latest ad plays on the public shame of covering a meal with ketchup by proudly displaying that it is actually the less embarrassing Nando’s Peri-Ketchup sauce.

Entitled ‘A Red Sauce Without The Red Flag’, the 15-second spot is created by New Commercial Arts in partnership with production studio Armoury, and shows three friends appearing disgusted as their mate cover her whole plate in the sauce.

Director Rollo Hollins said: “UGH, I loved making this one, casting a bunch of wild reactions is basically my dream job, esp so for the gang at NCA who pushed for such a fun creative. Mark our editor had an assembly cut in minutes – deciding which reactions of out of the plethora of mad takes we got on the day took all the hours afterward.”

“Our cast were heroes – our lead Boo’s eye twitch is EXACTLY the same as in her casting tape and never wavered through any take. If you look closely there is a 5th face we cast that sneaks in right at the end,” he continued.

Further elements of the campaign will run across social, out-of-home and radio.

Out-of-home focused agency St Marks Studios unveiled a giant bottle of Peri-Ketchup in Shoreditch, in a move which will also put passers by in with the chance to win a bottle of the new sauce by taking a selfie and putting it on Instagram.

Arsenal legend Bukayo Saka donned chef whites in a New Commercial Arts campaign for Nando’s surrounding the release of a limited edition Peri-Peri sauce earlier this year.
