Uncommon Creative Studio has appointed former Wieden + Kennedy New York, London, Tokyo and Shanghai stalwart Scott Dungate as its new chief creative officer.

Having worked in a freelance capacity since leaving Wieden + Kennedy last year, Dungate will now work closely with and report in to the London agency’s founders Nils Leonard, Natalie Graeme and Lucy Jameson.

During his 17-year spell across Wieden + Kennedy’s global offices, Dungate has produced work for a variety of household names including Budweiser, Google, Ikea, Netflix, Nike and Sainsbury’s.

“Uncommon is a studio built on a culture of making. They have a ferocious desire to push and apply creativity and craft into every corner they can, whether that’s design, experience, fashion, art or communication. They understand the power of work that creates fame to have a huge impact for the brands and companies they partner with,” Dungate said.

“This is what really stood out to me and attracted me to joining the studio. Uncommon want to hire creatives at all levels that aren’t afraid to get in the trenches, to help make the work better and push it into different directions. I can’t wait to get back to London and get started.”

Prior to joining Wieden + Kennedy in 2006, Dungate had worked as a freelancer out of JWT’s (now VML) Bangkok offices after leaving indie firm 303 in his native Perth, Australia.

Leonard added: “Scott is a rare talent. His love of making and belief in creativity and its role in the world matches our own. Scott is the type of creative leader who is still a maker at heart and loves being in the work, working with the team. This is what we do. We couldn’t be happier he has chosen Uncommon as his next home.

“When we first started, it was our ambition to build a company that could be a lighthouse for the world’s best talent before anything else. Scott leading London’s creative output – alongside Björn Ståhl in Stockholm and Sam Shepherd in New York – presents a really exciting time for the studio’s creative vision.”
