Harrods is celebrating its 175th anniversary with a series of luxury events, including a presentation across its world-famous façade with a light show and new window displays.

The celebrations begin next week with a light show taking place every evening at 8pm, across the Knightsbridge skyline and placing building itself at the centre of the anniversary campaign.

Spotlighting the luxury retailer’s heritage, sections of the building’s architecture will be illuminated, accompanied by digital screens that showcase the in-store offerings.

Managing director Michael Ward said: “Harrods is in the business of celebrating the best of luxury, and it felt fitting to take our a moment to celebrate our own momentous anniversary.”

The Harrods bears will also take centre stage throughout the anniversary celebrations, with a new collection celebrating the luxury retailer’s various milestones, including limited-edition collaborations with high-profile brands such as Valentino and Burberry.

Ward added: “We want to mark the occasion by celebrating all that is wonderful and unique about the Harrods brand – our place in British culture and history, our unparalleled brand partnerships and our relationships with our customers, while also looking firmly forward.”

First beginning as a grocery store in Stepney, East London, Harrods grew to become a luxurious department store with global appeal, selling perfumes and stationary as well as fruits and tea.

The celebrations follow on from Burberry’s high-profile collaboration with the brand last month.
