Frasers Group CMO departs and 25% of marketing department at risk

Frasers Group’s chief marketing officer Beckie Stanion has left the retail firm as it looks to restructure its marketing team, putting 20 jobs at risk.

Stanion leaves her role after less than two years in post. She had been responsible for brand direction and marketing for Flannels, House of Fraser, Frasers, Sports Direct and USC.

The news comes as the group kicks off a review of its marketing department, putting 20 employees into a ‘consultation period’ according to Drapers. Frasers’ London-based marketing team is believed to contain around 80 people in total.

A letter to staff seen by Drapers read: “As our business continues to evolve, so must our approach to how we operate. We have developed our business model over the last 18 months to better underpin our sports, premium and luxury strategic pillars, leading to improved levels of brand engagement under the leadership of our pillar MDs.

“We, and our group companies, have spent the last few weeks undertaking a review of our marketing structure and ways of working, with the intention of better aligning our marketing capability and approach under this model, whilst also improving our operational efficiency and delivery across all areas of our marketing functions.”

The letter added that the firm would aim to “avoid and mitigate any consequences of redundancies, including looking at other alternative roles across the company and group”.

Stanion’s departure will prove a sore blow, coming only days after Frasers strengthened its board with the addition of chief operating officer David Al-Mudallal and managing director for sports, Ger Wright.
