IKEA focuses on mental health with 2023 Christmas spot

Swedish furniture retailer Ikea is encouraging people to prioritise ‘joyful moments’ of reprieve during the inevitably hectic festive season in order to prioritise mental health.

Developed by creative agency Rethink, ‘Take a Holiday from the Holidays depicts a series of overwhelmed people ‘taking a break’ during Christmas festivities through a series of musical vignettes set to Tiffany’s cover of I Think We’re Alone Now.

At various points the ad shows a grandmother doing a crossword for some much-needed respite from her grandchildren, an exhausted dad resting in the guest bedroom, and even Father Christmas himself taking a breather in a garage.

“The holidays are one of the busiest times of the year, and as much as we anticipate and treasure celebrating with family and friends, at some point, we all need a little break,” IKEA head of marketing, Jonelle Ricketts said.

“This year’s holiday campaign is all about showing how IKEA can help create those spaces within any home that are perfect for taking a little breather from the mayhem of the holiday season.”

Running across TV, cinema, out-of-home, digital and social media, the retailer’s campaign will be live through the bulk of the festive season in the run-up to Christmas from 13th November to 24th December.
