Disney Plus rolls out Netflix-style ad tier in UK

Disney Plus has followed in the footsteps of Netflix with the introduction of an ad-supported tier, significantly cheaper than its current options.

Disney Plus will now encompass three tiers – premium, standard and standard with ads – all three reflected in the different price points, £10.99, £7.99 and £4.99 respectively.

The new move replicate other streaming rival’s decisions to allow viewers to break up their binge-watching session with ad breaks, and will not allow for features like downloads.

In addition, the new subscription options are supported by plans for a Netflix-style crack down on password sharing.

Announcing the intended clampdown at an earning call earlier this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that addressing account sharing was a top priority for the streaming service.

Commenting customers will not be allowed to access the service outside their main address, Disney stated: “You may not share your subscription outside of your household.”

“Household means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.”
